Here's is an easy-to-do crocheted mitten pattern.
They fit snug at the wrist to keep the cold out.
Directions are simple.
Crochet lengthwise, fold together, sew the edges, turn right-side out, and presto, you have a well fitting mitten.

ROW 1: 12 sc, 6 sl st, 24 sc, 3 sl st, 24 sc, 6 sl st, 12 sc, chain 1. Turn and repeat 13 times.
THUMB: Row 1: 12 sc, 6 sl st, 9 sc, chain 21, skip 33 stitches, 9 sc, 6 sl st, 12 sc.
THUMB: Row 2: 12 sc, 6 sl st, 18 sc, 3 sl st, 18 sc, 6 sl st, 12 sc. Repeat Row 2 four more times.
