Learn to Crochet
Tutorial with Pictures
Would
you like to learn how to crochet? Learning how to crochet can be really simple
if you have the right teacher.
I really can't remember who taught me how to crochet. For some reason, I think it was my mother, but it may have been my older sister.
We started out learning to crochet by making collars for our kittens. Then we crocheted clothes for our Barbie dolls. Then we graduated into making booties for ourselves to wear during the winter.
The main thing about learning how to crochet is being able to hold and manipulate the yarn with your fingers. So let me tell you how to hold the yarn. If you are right-handed, it will be a lot easier to teach you.
What you'll Need:
Crocheting
Needle (my favorite is a #7 or G)
Yarn, medium thickness
Relaxed fingers
Desire
to Learn
Persistence
Let's Get Started
1. So to start, you need to make a slipknot. First wind the yarn around your fingers like this. Grab the string of yarn in your left hand and wrap, hold the end with your right hand.

2. Now slide a piece of yarn through the first loop. OK now we're going to bring the end of this yarn and push it through to make a loop. See the loop

3. Now take your crocheting needle and put it through the loop, but don't let go of the end. Then pull it sort of snug around the crocheting needle. Now we have a nice loop on our crocheting needle.

Once you learn how to make that loop the rest is simple. But now you need to know how to hold the yarn in your left hand, so when you are crocheting, the yarn will slide easily, because you control the tension.

So with this first lesson the hardest thing probably for you, will be learning to make the first loop and hold the yarn correctly, so that's what you need to practice first.

Prepare for a Recession?
- I'm starting a list here of some things we are going to do to try to prepare
for this... somehow.
We Put Solar Lights in our
House - We've had a set of outdoor solar lights outside our house for 3 years,
and thought, "Why not put outdoor solar lights "inside" the house?
Wind
Turbine Test - We started thinking about how we could build a wind turbine
to generate our own electricity.
Magazines
for Toddlers - I wanted to send some magazines to the grandbaby for something
to do during winter.
